Harris Finally Bulk To Pressure

Vice President Kamala Harris may be bowing to the intense pressure she has faced, with reports suggesting that she is starting to give in to the pressure.

Harris has refused to do an interview with the press since she became the Democratic party nominee. Her refusal has brought intense pressure from both sides of the political aisle, including from the liberal mainstream media, which largely cheers for her.

Latest reports suggest the pressure may be paying off as her aides are asking reporters for advice on who Harris should first do a sit-down with. According to Politico Playbook, the vice president’s aides are also receiving offers from several news outlets who are making their best pitch on why they should score the first interview with the Democratic party nominee.

Many, including those from Harris’ inner circle,  have outlined the importance of doing a lengthy, serious interview with a major news anchor who will push her on various issues. However, the vice president disagrees with their view.

According to two people who spoke with Playbook on the issue, Harris has told her Democrat colleagues that she does not need a big interview. The goal of the interview also remains a major point of contention within the vice president’s camp.

Ashley Etienne, who previously served as Harris’ communication adviser, told Playbook that Harris should have three main goals as she continues to consider the interview.

“The first goal would be to peel back some layers on the vice president and show some new dimensions to her,” Etienne said. “There are questions about her worldview and ethos and who she is as a leader.

Etienne added that the second goal of the interview should be about Harris’ policies. Etienne insisted that the vice president must seek to distance her policies from those of President Joe Biden.

“To be honest, a big audience for this is the inside-the-beltway crowd that really cares about this,” Etienne said. “So she should substantively draw some distinctions with Biden on some policy issues.”

Etienne added that the final goal of the interview should seek to show her as commander-in-chief.

“Third, show her visually as commander-in-chief. I would want her to do some in her office at the White House, show her on the road, and also take you inside her home,” Etienne concluded.

Some of the hot favorites who may likely secure the big interview include CBS’ Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, ABC’s David Muir, and NBC’s Lester Holt and Savannah Guthrie.

CNN’s Dana Bash, Anderson Cooper, Jake Tapper, Kaitlan Collins and Abby Phillip are also in the mix to score the big interview.
