Police Arrest 10-Year-Old Over Crime That Rocked City
A ten-year-old boy has been accused of committing a crime too big for his age. A crime, even when committed by an adult, has severe consequences that are too big to be handled by a child, especially his age.
A 10-year-old boy who allegedly confessed to fatally shooting a former mayor and his daughter has been arrested by Police in Louisiana, NBC News reported Tuesday.
The shooting happened at the mayor’s home in Minden. Officers found Joe Cornelius Sr., 82, and Keisha Miles, 31, dead Sunday morning after arriving at the former mayor’s house. The victims were shot fatally as their bodies were riddled with gunshot wounds from two handguns that were found with empty magazines at the scene, NBC reported.
Shreveport Police Chief Jared McIver reported that the child was a relative of the deceased. According to the outlet, the boy had given a different story earlier on, but with the presence of his grandmother, he admitted to the shooting.
The motive behind the shooting by the young boy is not yet ascertained. Some reports have it that he is autistic and had issues with the former mayor over video games.
In addition to his time as mayor, Mr Cornelius worked as a former sheriff’s deputy and marshal. He also was a former funeral home worker and ran community programs for black youth.
