Wife Pleads Guilty To Husband’s Attempted Poisoning

An Arizona woman pleaded guilty on Monday to charges of attempting to poison her husband by putting bleach in his coffee, Fox News reported.

Melody Felicano Johnson, 40, pleads guilty to two counts of poisoning food or drink for attempting to poison her husband, Roby Johnson, a U.S. airman, by contaminating his coffee with bleach on July 11 and July 18, 2023.

Melody’s devious acts were discovered with the help of a hidden camera her husband had set up in their home. Daily Caller reports that Johnson discovered an odd flavor in his coffee in March 2023 when the family was still stationed in Germany.

He drank the coffee for weeks before taking steps to determine what was wrong with it. Due to his suspicions, he put pool chemical testing strips on his coffee, which showed a high amount of chlorine.

Court documents show that Melody knew her husband would prep his coffee pot to be ready at night so that in the morning, he just needed to turn it on to make his coffee. He pretended to drink the coffee while still in Germany and waited until the family returned to Arizona to alert the authorities.

While in Arizona, he installed a hidden camera that captured Melody pouring bleach into his coffee maker. On July 6, Fox News reported that Johnson filed a report with the Tucson Police Department. However, the police did not follow up on the case due to a lack of credible evidence.

This prompted Johnson to install a second camera disguised as a fire alarm. He returned to the police on July 18 with a piece of video evidence that showed Melody pouring bleach into the coffee machine before brewing.

According to the Prime County Sheriff’s office, Melody was initially arrested and charged with attempted-first-degree murder. She was also charged with aggravated assault and adding harmful substances to food, drink, or medicine. She awaits sentencing on May 10.

Court documents reveal that Johnson believed his wife was trying to kill him to collect death benefits. The couple, who have a child together, were going through a divorce during the incident.
