Michael Madsen, the gravel-voiced actor renowned for his tough-guy roles in Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill, was found unresponsive at his Malibu, California, home early Thursday morning. 

Deputies responded to a 911 call and pronounced the 67-year-old dead at the scene. According to his manager, Ron Smith, Madsen suffered a cardiac arrest. No foul play is suspected, per the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

A Prolific Career Cut Short 

Madsen’s career spanned over four decades, with nearly 350 acting credits, including iconic performances as Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs and Budd in Kill Bill. His menacing yet charismatic screen presence made him a staple in Hollywood, particularly in Tarantino’s films. 

“In the last two years Michael Madsen has been doing some incredible work with independent film including upcoming feature films Resurrection Road, Concessions and Cookbook for Southern Housewives, and was really looking forward to this next chapter in his life,” said managers Susan Ferris, Ron Smith, and publicist Liz Rodriguez in a statement. 

Madsen was also preparing to release a poetry book, Tears For My Father: Outlaw Thoughts and Poems.

Family in Mourning 

Hours after his passing, Madsen’s estranged wife, DeAnna, and sons Christian, 35, Max, 31, and Luke, 19, gathered at his Malibu home. The family appeared devastated, with Max consoling DeAnna in the driveway. 

Madsen’s sister, Oscar-nominated actress Virginia Madsen, shared a heartfelt tribute: “My brother Michael has left the stage. He was thunder and velvet. Mischief wrapped in tenderness. A poet disguised as an outlaw. A father, a son, a brother — etched in contradiction, tempered by love that left its mark.”
