President-Elect Donald Trump Names Border Czar
President-elect Donald Trump is starting to build his government following his historic landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris.
The president-elect announced on Sunday night that Tom Homan would serve as the “border czar” in his upcoming administration.
Trump made the revelation in a post on Truth Social, adding that Homan would be tasked with managing the nation’s borders. The incoming president stated that Homan would oversee the deportation of illegal immigrants back to their home countries while addressing challenges at both the northern and southern borders. Additionally, Homan will be responsible for ensuring maritime and aviation security.
“I am pleased to announce that the Former ICE Director, and stalwart on Border Control, Tom Homan, will be joining the Trump Administration, in charge of our Nation’s Borders,” the president-elect wrote late Sunday on his Truth Social site. “I’ve known Tom for a long time, and there is nobody better at policing and controlling our Borders. Likewise, Tom Homan will be in charge of all Deportation of Illegal Aliens back to their Country of Origin. Congratulations to Tom. I have no doubt he will do a fantastic, and long-awaited for, job.”
Speaking on Fox News, Homan said he was honored by Trump’s appointment offer. He also went on to address how he plans to help Trump carry out his mass deportation plans.
“It’s going to be a well-targeted, planned operation conducted by the men of ICE. The men and women of ICE do this daily. They’re good at it,” Homan said. “When we go out there, we’re going to know who we’re looking for. We most likely know where they’re going to be, and it’s going to be done in a humane manner.”
Homan, however, noted that the deportation effort will initially target those posing a risk to public safety.
“You concentrate on the public safety threats and the national security threats first, because they’re the worst of the worst,” Homan told Fox News.
Homan, who previously served as former acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director under the Trump administration, maintained that ICE would move to implement Trump’s plans in a “humane manner.”
Gil Kerlikowske, who served as former President Barack Obama’s head of U.S. Customs and Border Protection, insisted that Homan’s experience with immigration would come in handy.
“Tom is much more knowledgeable about what can be done and what’s practical,” Kerlikowske said.
