Democrat Governor Says Flip-Flopping Harris Must Provide Explanations

Vice President Kamala Harris must provide explanations to the American people, according to a prominent Democrat governor.

Since becoming the Democrat Party presidential nominee, Harris has changed her rhetoric on some of her policy positions. The vice president who ran her 2020 presidential campaign on the promise to ban fracking is now positioning herself in favor of drilling.

Harris also previously called for taxpayers’ money to be used to provide gender change surgery to illegal immigrants and prisoners. During a recent Fox News interview, the vice president refused to say whether she still supports that policy.

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D) told PBS News’ “Firing Line” and suggested Harris must explain the rationale behind flip-flopping. Shapiro, whose state will play a pivotal role in deciding the election, made the remark while attempting to defend Harris’ policy changes.

During the interview, PBS News’ Margaret Hoover told the Democrat governor that the American people are concerned that Harris may have changed her policies for political reasons.

“Well, look, I think that’s on the vice president to explain her rationale on this,” Shapiro responded.

Earlier in the interview, Hoover asked Shapiro if Harris had told him why she changed her mind about banning fracking and mandating electric vehicles.

“We need to produce more energy in this country for our economy, for national security,” the governor responded. “We’re producing more energy right now than ever before, and that’s something we should be proud of. I’m certainly proud of that as the governor of Pennsylvania, where we are a net energy exporter. I think Kamala Harris’s views on this issue have changed and as I have said and you cited, I think it’s a sign of strength. She listened to people. She evolved on the issue.”

Shapiro failed to give a particular reason for Harris’s change of mind but noted that he hasn’t spoken to the vice president on the issue.

“We have not had a direct conversation about this issue in particular,” Shapiro said. “I think what is clear to me, this is my interpretation, is that she’s listened and she has seen the power that natural gas, the power that our energy sources domestically here in the United States have in strengthening our economy, in strengthening our national security, just as Joe Biden in ’87 talked about.”

Shapiro was the hot favorite to be Harris’ running mate. The vice president eventually picked Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D), a move many political pundits have claimed may cost her the election.
