Child Custody Takes A Deadly Turn
During a child custody deposition at a Las Vegas law office on Monday morning, a lawyer fatally shot and killed his former daughter-in-law and a fellow attorney, according to reports.
The suspect opened fire at the Prince Law Group office in Summerlin during a deposition of his son, whom he had been representing.
The other attorney represented his wife, the former daughter-in-law of the suspect, and the opposing counsel. After fatally shooting his former daughter-in-law and fellow attorney, the suspect turned the gun on himself.
The incident occurred about 10:04 am when the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) tweeted they received a call on the shooting.
“#BREAKING We are investigating a shooting inside a business near Pavilion Center Drive and Charleston. This is a dynamic event, and multiple LVMPD emergency vehicles are responding. Please avoid the area. We will have more info soon,” the tweet reads.
When the officers arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds. They were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
During a press conference, Sheriff Kevin McMahill addressed the incident in a statement.
“My police did not kill the suspect. We believe he took his own life,” he said. The sheriff also added that there was no further threat to the public.
NBC News reports that the Clark County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday identified the deceased as Ashley Prince, 30; Dennis Prince, 57; and Joseph Houston, 77.
Authorities revealed Houston is the alleged shooter. The coroner’s office ruled the 77-year-old’s death as suicide.
However, the coroner has not released the cause and manner of their deaths. Lawyer Robert Eglet revealed that the attorney who was slain was his former law partner and that they had known each other for 30 years.
“He was a very good guy. He was one of the finest trial lawyers in the state of Nevada. It’s tragic, and it’s senseless,” he said.
Prince Law Group released a statement on Monday evening following the incident.
“With profound sadness, Prince Law Group would like to thank everyone who has reached out to us with heartfelt messages of concern and sympathy over the tragic violence that occurred this morning in our offices,” the statement reads. “We ask that you please respect the privacy of the families involved.”
