Biden Re-Election- Adam Schiff Makes Decision
President Joe Biden’s re-election bid was marred in further drama after reports emerged that Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) made his decision.
Biden is under immense pressure to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race following his last Debate performance. Several of his influential supporters and mega-donors, including Hollywood star George Clooney, have demanded the president withdraw.
On Wednesday, Schiff became the most high-profile Democrat to call on Biden to drop out of the race. According to the Los Angeles Times, Schiff urged Joe Biden to “pass the torch” to a candidate capable of beating former President Donald Trump.
According to the outlet, Schiff described Biden as one of the most consequential presidents in America’s history.
“His lifetime of service as a Senator, a Vice President, and now as President has made our country better,” the lawmaker said. “But our nation is at a crossroads. A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November.”
However, Schiff —who is running for Senate— maintained that the decision to drop out of the race is Biden’s. The Democrat lawmaker added that he would do everything in his power to help whoever becomes his party’s eventual nominee.
“I will do everything I can to help them succeed,” Schiff insisted. “There is only one singular goal: defeating Donald Trump. The stakes are just too high.”
Schiff’s remarks make him the most high-profile Democrat to publicly call for President Joe Biden to withdraw from the race.
Last week, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) threw her support behind the president.
“Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race and I support him,” the New York lawmaker posted on X.
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has also thrown his support behind Joe Biden. The Independent lawmaker, who caucuses with the Democrat party, urged Democrats to get behind the president.
“Mr. Biden may not be the ideal candidate, but he will be the candidate and should be the candidate,” Sanders wrote in an opinion piece for The New York Times.
Despite the threatening civil war in the Democrat party, Biden vowed to push on and not drop out.
