AOC Makes Decision On Joe Biden
As the saga surrounding President Joe Biden’s reelection bid continues, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) on Monday made her position clear on the issue.
President Biden is under immense pressure to drop out of the race following his disastrous debate performance against his predecessor, former President Donald Trump. Despite the pressure, the president has refused to drop out, vowing that he will secure the Democratic ticket and beat Trump in November.
Ocasio-Cortez revealed on Monday that she would be standing by Joe Biden. The Democrat lawmaker threw her support behind the president while noting that Biden will not drop out of the race.
“I have spoken to the president over the weekend. I have spoken with him extensively. He made clear then and he has made clear since that he is in this race,” Ocasio-Cortez said in a statement. “The matter is closed. He had reiterated that this morning, he has reiterated that to the public. Joe Biden is our nominee. He is not leaving this race. He is in this race and I support him.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s declaration comes as Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) became the first Senate Democrat to break from the president. Previous reports suggested Bennet, alongside Sens. Jon Tester (D-MT) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH), believes that Biden is on course to lose the November presidential election to Trump.
Bennet confirmed the report in a Tuesday interview on CNN, noting that Democrats may lose more than the White House if they stick with Biden.
“Well, it’s true that I said that and I did say that behind closed doors and you guys and others asked whether I said it, and that is what I said. So, I figured I should come here and say it publicly,” the senator said. “Donald Trump is on track, I think, to win this election and maybe win it by a landslide and take with him the Senate and the House. I think that we could lose the whole thing.”
Recent polls seem to back Bennet’s claim, with several polls showing Trump beating Biden. Several polls conducted since the debate have consistently shown Trump leading Biden, with the two political figures tying on rare occasions.
