House Democrats, led by figures like Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, recently claimed President Trump lifted sanctions on Russia, a move they suggested endangered national security. 

“While both parties in Congress push to tighten sanctions, Trump signals—again—whose side he’s on,” the Democrats on the House Affairs Committee posted on X Monday. “He won’t hold Russia accountable. Congress must.”

Democrats’ Lies And Hypocrisy Exposed

These accusations, however, have been debunked as “verifiably false” by senior U.S. officials. “No sanctions involving Russia have been lifted by the Trump administration, full stop,” a senior official told Kyiv Post, directly contradicting the Democrats’ narrative. 

The Democrats referenced a general license renewal from the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). The license  permits certain Russian banks to operate temporarily without sanctions. 

The Democrats, however, failed to mention that this license continues a policy set by the Biden administration in December 2024 and renewed in January 2025, before Trump’s inauguration. 

A Treasury Department spokesman told The Daily Wire that the license is an extension of an existing measure, not a sanctions rollback.

This falsehood highlights a pattern of hypocrisy, as Democrats push misleading claims to undermine Trump’s foreign policy.

Trump’s Firm Stance on Russia

Contrary to Democratic assertions, President Trump has maintained a tough stance on Russia. On July 1, 2025, Trump quietly extended Biden-era sanctions targeting Russian banks and the energy sector, ensuring continued pressure on Moscow. This action aligns with Trump’s broader strategy to counter Russian aggression while pursuing diplomatic avenues for peace in Ukraine. 

“President Trump is committed to a strong America-first policy, which includes holding adversaries like Russia accountable,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. The extension of sanctions directly refutes the Democrats’ claims, exposing their accusations as politically motivated.

Hypocrisy and Political Games

Democrats’ false claims about Trump’s Russia policy mirror their history of exaggerating or fabricating narratives to attack him. From unfounded allegations of Russian election interference to the current sanctions myth, the pattern is clear. 

“The same people pushing fake narratives about Russia’s election meddling are now lying about sanctions,” Trump stated on Truth Social, calling out the hypocrisy. This tactic, critics argue, is a desperate attempt to distract from Democrats’ own foreign policy failures, including their handling of Ukraine and Iran.

A Call for Accountability

As Democrats continue to spread misinformation, conservatives are calling for accountability. 

“These lies aren’t just wrong—they’re dangerous, undermining our national security for political points,” said Sen. Marco Rubio, emphasizing the need for truth in policy debates. With Trump maintaining sanctions and exploring diplomatic solutions, the administration remains focused on strength and stability, despite Democratic efforts to distort the record.
