The FBI has reportedly launched an investigation into claims that former FBI Director James Comey oversaw a secret operation to infiltrate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. According to The Washington Times, an FBI whistleblower disclosed the alleged scheme last year to the House Judiciary Committee.

The whistleblower claims that Comey personally directed the operation, which allegedly involved two female FBI agents acting as undercover “honeypots”—operatives who use romantic or seductive tactics to gather intelligence on their targets.

“The case had no predicated foundation, so Comey personally directed the investigation without creating an official case file in Sentinel or any other FBI system,” the FBI whistleblower said. “The FBI has multiple methods of protecting highly sensitive investigations, so Comey did not have a legitimate reason not to officially create an official investigation file or have a file number.”.

Under the leadership of Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, the FBI is now reportedly searching for those former undercover agents. The investigation aims to uncover whether Comey’s alleged off-the-books operation was an attempt to gather incriminating evidence to justify an official probe into Trump’s campaign.

The latest revelation about Comey’s alleged actions was met with heavy criticism on social media with one user accusing the former FBI director of taking away the American people’s trust. 

“James Comey took something sacred away from the American people.. our trust. The harm those who weaponized law enforcement on Trump to our faith in the FBI can only be restored by placing a cost on them, so no one else even considers it,” the user wrote.

“This was an attempted coup by Comey and others within the FBI! They fabricated evidence, concealed and suppressed exculpatory facts, and then lied to Congress and the American people. Any other American would have been charged and tried already. Why haven’t they been?” another user wrote.

Political commentator and radio host Hugh Hewitt insisted that the latest revelation should shake everyone to their core. 

“If —a very big IF— this is true or even truth-adjacent, the scandal should shake everybody of standing in the mainstream in either party and any reporter w/a passing understanding of American history and the the rule of law,” Hewitt wrote on X. “We would all know what such an operation would mean: an actual example of an attempt to manipulate the political process via the secret abuse of federal authority. It would be worse than the lawfare we know about. I hesitate, not to believe that an allegation was made, but that anything so wildly irresponsible would have been ok’d or even dreamt up by Director Comey.”
