The fall-out from Vice President Kamala Harris’ humiliating loss to President-Elect Donald Trump continued on Tuesday after Lindy Li, a member of the Democratic National Committee’s National Finance Committee, criticized Harris on Tuesday for failing to take “responsibility” for her campaign’s wasteful spending.
Speaking on NewsNation Now, Li expressed surprise at the lack of accountability regarding the reported $1.5 billion spent by Harris and the Democratic Party during her brief campaign, which began on July 21. Li described a recent donor call as “self-congratulatory” despite the significant financial loss.
“She actually held two calls, one for her top donors and one for grassroots. I was speaking and texting with fellow attendees in the call, and we were amazed by how self-congratulatory the tone was …. The call was about 20, 30 minutes,” Li said. “I don’t recall anyone taking responsibility for the fact that we spent about $2 billion across the super PAC and the campaign and came up so significantly short. We lost seven swing states.”
Li revealed that during the call, staffers praised Harris as a visionary leader. The vice president’s Thanksgiving recipe was also shared during the call, leaving the Democrat megadonor stunned.
“I don’t say this with any malice or anything. I’m just merely conveying what happened. I think I was stunned to hear that, given just the extent and brutality of the loss and the fact that DNC staffers — at least two-thirds — have been fired summarily,” Li added. “And a lot of them are at a loss as to what to do. I’m just, frankly, stunned that there was no sort of post-mortem or an analysis of how we can do better, what sort of lessons were learned. It was really just patting each other on the back, congratulating each other on I’m not sure what. And saying, ‘We’ll see you for Christmas.’”
Democratic megadonor John Morgan echoed Li’s sentiments while speaking with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo. Morgan insisted that Harris’ wasteful spending should disqualify her from ever holding office.
“A lot of people got rich on the back of donors trying to stop Trump. And I think this disqualifies her forever. Forever. If you can’t run a campaign, you can’t run America. And that would be the argument just day one. So it was terrible,” Morgan told host Chris Cuomo. “Look, I think she did a good job in the debate. I think she did as good a job as you could hope for in a short period of time.”
Morgan revealed that he was against Harris being the Democratic nominee because she would not win.
“I told you, I told everybody, she should not have been the nominee. She was not going to win. And she didn’t win and she lost badly,” he continued. “So she’s got to go figure out her life … She’s having a call with donors this week, they tell me, about her political future. I don’t think she has a political future.”
