Famous Fashion Designer Roberto Cavalli Dies At 83
Renowned fashion designer Roberto Cavalli died in his home on April 12 in Florence, Italy, at 83. His fashion house confirmed his death on social media with a heartfelt tribute.
“A life lived with love. It is with great sadness that today we say our final goodbyes to our founder, Roberto Cavalli,” the post reads. “From humble beginnings in Florence, Roberto became a globally recognized name loved and respected by all. Naturally talented and creative, Roberto believed that everyone can discover and nurture the artist within themselves. Roberto Cavalli’s legacy will live on via his creativity, love of nature and his family, whom he cherished.”
Fausto Puglisi, the creative director at the Roberto Cavalli fashion house, shared a personal tribute on social media to the iconic designer.
“Dear Roberto, you may not be physically here with us anymore, but I know I will feel your spirit with me always,” Puglisi wrote. “Rest in peace, you will be missed, and you are loved by so many that your name will continue on, a beacon of inspiration for others, and especially for me.”
No information concerning the circumstances of his death has been disclosed.
Cavalli, born in Florence on Nov. 15, 1940, comes from a family of artists. Cavalli became renowned in the early 1970s for his animal prints and an excessive, sexy style that remained his trademark throughout his long career.
The iconic designer expanded his glamorous collection to menswear, womenswear, eyewear, beachwear and underwear.
After starting his fashion house in the early 1970s, Cavalli quickly became an iconic brand loved by top celebrities like Madonna, Gwyneth Paltrow and Beyoncé.
Cavalli studied at the Florence State Institute of Art, specializing in textile applications of painting. His works attracted the attention of big names in French fashion, such as Hermès and Pierre Cardin.
His breakthrough came when he presented the first collection bearing his name at the Salon du Prêt-à-Porter in Paris. Then, it was the turn of Florence and Milan. It wasn’t long before his career was on the rise.
Cavalli is survived by model Sandra Nilsson, his partner since 2014, and six children. He became the father of his sixth child at the age of 82.
