Former Mayor Given Task Of Investigating ‘Mobster’ Mayor
Former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has been hired at $400 an hour to investigate Dolton, Illinois, Democrat Mayor Tiffany Henyard , who has been branded America’s worst mayor.
According to Daily Mail, Mayor Tiffany Henyard, 40, has been accused of embezzling taxpayer funds and retaliating against a victim of assault. Last month, the mayor vetoed an investigation into the allegations.
Lightfoot, who lost her re-election bid in a landslide last year, expressed her honor in being tasked with the investigation of Henyard.
“I am honored that the Village of Dolton Board of Trustees has placed their confidence in me to conduct a thorough and timely independent investigation into the matters outlined in the resolution regarding Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her administration,” Lightfoot said. “As someone who has made good governance the cornerstone of my career in public service, recognize that maintaining the trust of those you serve and making decisions in their best interests is essential.”
New York Post reports that Dolton’s village board voted to hire Lightfoot on Monday night in an unofficial meeting at an offsite park district facility rather than the Dolton Village Hall.
The board has tasked the former mayor with providing periodic updates on the investigation into Henyard’s alleged misconduct and lavish spending. They have requested a comprehensive report at the conclusion of the investigation.
According to Dolton Trustee Jason House, Lightfoot has been assigned by the board to investigate all allegations of misconduct, including all village, state and federal law violations.
When the board decided to hire Lightfoot on Monday at the board meeting, one speaker questioned the move.
“At the end of the day, haven’t gotten results from simple Freedom of Information Act requests (FOIA), so how are you going to be different?’
Lightfoot describes herself as a very driven person with hopes that the mayor will cooperate.
“It is my sincere hope that Mayor Henyard will voluntarily cooperate, but should they not, we are prepared to do what is necessary to get to the facts,” she said.
